Communication Officer in Senegal -Humanitarian Volunteer

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
MdM has been developing and implementing health programmes in Dakar since 2003. The volunteer will be in charge of implementing MdM Senegal's communication action plans, in particular the implementation of communication activities (awareness-raising, events...), the application of the communication plan, the management of social networks, the monitoring of and the production of tools and actions (leaflets, posters, videos, press articles, web articles, events, surveys), as well as relations with partners & medias. The themes will concern in particular gender, gender-based violence and reproductive health. She/he will supervise the implementation of the communication, visibility and social mobilisation strategy of the projects in accordance with the donors' guidelines. He/she will maintain links with project partners & civil society organisations, artists, media… Work in collaboration with other technical departments and ensure capacity building of teams in communication.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
The work will take place at the MdM office in the capital Dakar. The volunteer will then be accommodated in the organisation's guesthouse. There will be a 24/h receptionist for emergencies and any necessary movements to ensure the volunteer's wellbeing. Dakar is a quiet city with several beaches & a rich cultural life to relax in. The general atmosphere in Dakar is good. However, it is recommended to be careful when travelling, especially at night, and to avoid certain places outside the city centre. The volunteer will receive a monthly per diem of 568€ to cover their food and other expenses.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Volunteers will improve their professional knowledge through training in humanitarian action, and specific issues on security, gender, psychosocial support... and will be provided with training resources to continue their learning. Those selected will receive briefings/training at MdM headquarters in Madrid with the different departments related to the mission and the position, as well as mandatory online training on environmental issues before they start their field work. Training sessions will take place both in the countries of the supporting organisations and in of the host organisations.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
EDUCATION: 5 years of higher education in Communication./ EXPERIENCE: Min. of 1 year in a communications position preferred. Experience in coordinating & supervising service providers is valued. Experience in the field of international development & humanitarian action would be an asset./ SKILLS: communication, dynamism, adaptability, organisational. Good command of computer tools and Office Pack. Work in a multicultural team. Knowledge of and interest in the themes dealt with: sexual and reproductive health, gender, GBV./ LANGUAGES: French is essential. Spanish, English would be an asset.
